A ballerina is literally lifted into the air by hundreds of colorful butterflies, set against a blue sky with light, white clouds against a barren backdrop. The butterflies have magically attached themselves to her dress with others fluttering around her. One butterfly has settled on the tip of her finger. This is my second painting I've done involving butterflies. The idea for the painting came to me when I saw a very colorful dress that reminded me of butterflies. I thought to myself, "What if butterflies actually were the dress?" I thought of them carrying the person up and into the sky and decided a ballerina would be the ideal person for this to happen to. The name for the painting came to me while working on all the butterflies!
I consider myself to be a modern day surrealist, heavily influenced by my all-time favorite artist, Rene Magritte. I paint ideas. My goal is to paint the impossible, or at least, the highly improbable. With my paintings, you can always tell what's going on, you just don't necessarily know why. I want my paintings to tell stories that make you think. And if I can bring a smile to your face, that's even better. Enjoy!
