A friend of mine encouraged me to paint some 'real' items. I used a little souvenir of the Old Man of the Sea as my model and painted this. The name Uncle Bunk comes from a National Lampoon comics page that featured a drunken sea captain based off of a cartoon that used to run in my local Sunday paper back when I was a kid.
I consider myself to be a modern day surrealist, heavily influenced by my all-time favorite artist, Rene Magritte. I paint ideas. My goal is to paint the impossible, or at least, the highly improbable. With my paintings, you can always tell what's going on, you just don't necessarily know why. I want my paintings to tell stories that make you think. And if I can bring a smile to your face, that's even better. Enjoy!
