This is the fifth 'stick-painting' I've done - where I smother the canvas in paint and then literally 'stick' items into it, allowing the paint to seal the item into place upon drying. Here, I spray painted a range of small wooden sticks and searched for a number of white stones using a mixture of various shades of green as a background for the white images.
First, there was "Nuts and Bolts". Then came, "Nickels and Dimes", "Salt and Pepper" and "War and Peace". There are more to follow, serving as a fun break from the detail-oriented painting style I normally pursue.
I consider myself to be a modern day surrealist, heavily influenced by my all-time favorite artist, Rene Magritte. I paint ideas. My goal is to paint the impossible, or at least, the highly improbable. With my paintings, you can always tell what's going on, you just don't necessarily know why. I want my paintings to tell stories that make you think. And if I can bring a smile to your face, that's even better. Enjoy!
